Corporate Lactation Program
Best Beginnings Lactation Services is designed to assist local businesses to make a positive commitment
to becoming a “mother-friendly” workplace by supporting the breastfeeding women returning to the workforce. This provides a proven return on investment in the form of lower absenteeism, enhanced employee loyalty and morale, fewer health-care claims and a positive, family-friendly image in the community.
Federal LAW! The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is a bill that has passed both the Senate and the House and was signed into law March 23, 2010. Bill includes federal worksite breastfeeding support.
Women with infants and children are the fastest growing segment of the workforce.
Currently in the U.S., 70% of working mothers with children under the age of three work full-time. Approximately one-third of these mothers return to work within three months of giving birth, while two-thirds return before the baby is 6 months old. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Association of Family Physicians (AAFP) recommend that women provide breast milk exclusively for the first 6 months of life and to continue breastfeeding for the first year of life. Unfortunately, many women discontinue breastfeeding upon returning to work, or fail to return to work altogether because of a lack of lactation resources
and support in the work setting. Many of these challenges can be overcome with minimal employer
time and cost investment.

Best Beginnings Lactation Services offers the returning-to-work mom a welcoming and comfortable setting within their corporate environment to express milk (necessary if the new mother wants to continue breastfeeding), as well as convenient access to a host of pre- and post-natal services, products and support.
The program is completely customizable depending on corporate and employee needs – all the employer is required to provide is a dedicated, private room. Best Beginnings Lactation Services will assist the employer in providing the resources needed for a workplace lactation program. We begin with a complementary needs assessment, including: an analysis of current corporate policy, interpretation of legislation, and accommodations for breastfeeding support that may already be in place. Both a business professional and a Best Beginnings certified lactation consultant will work hand-in-hand with company representatives to develop a program uniquely suited to specific corporate and employee needs.
