This 2-hour Workshop is designed for expectant parents and parents of children from birth to 24 months. I will teach you all you need to know to begin using the Baby Signs Program at home. It's as easy as waving bye-bye! Early childhood educators, parent educators, social workers and health specialists are also welcome. So that all may fully participate, no babies please. ______________________________________________________________ Starting Solid Foods Class Starting solid foods with an infant can be a time that brings up many questions for new parents. This class will provide information about the optimum time for beginning solids with your infant and will help you learn to read your baby's signals to determine if he/she is ready for solids. In addition, you will learn about great first foods, foods to avoid, transitioning to table foods, homemade baby food vs. commercial baby food, and general feeding guidelines.

__________________________________________________________ Prenatal Breastfeeding Class Most of us know that “breast is best” when it comes to optimal nutrition for your baby. Give yourself the best chance of success by preparing yourself for the ups and downs of breastfeeding your new baby. This class will introduce expectant parents to basic breastfeeding techniques, the physiology of the breast, appropriate feeding positions, attaining a comfortable latch, establishing an adequate milk supply, handling common breastfeeding problems, and knowing when to get help. It will also cover the advantages of breastfeeding, and ways partners and family can support the breastfeeding mom.

_______________________________________________________________ Musikgarten Music’s melodic and rhythmic patterns awaken and stimulate neural pathways in the brain that help develop memory, math skills, and powers of abstract and creative thinking. Music touches all spheres of development, including language, self _expression, concentration, social interaction, fine motor skills, listening, and more. Classes feature bouncing and rocking songs, wiggle and peek-a-boo games, a superb CD recordings by a fine children’s choir and outstanding instrumentalists, together with a book describing the activities and games to play with your child. Children in the Music Time for Babies use a lovely cloth instrument pouch with rhythm sticks, Musikgarten rattle and colorful scarf. Children in the Toddlers class get a small rhythm instrument or a bright scarf with their materials. Preschoolers begin to discover the seasons, progressing to visual clues of their musical world and expanding their imaginations. We have a wonderful time learning & enjoying music & movement!! ________________________________________________________________ Childbirth Education and Early Pregnancy Classes Melissa Harley, local childbirth educator and doula is teaming up with Best Beginnings to teach classes to expectant parents. Melissa will be teaching both early pregnancy and childbirth education classes starting in February. Her credentials include certifications with Lamaze International, Dona International, and Safer Kids Worldwide. She currently works independently as a doula, childbirth educator, and child passenger safety technician with her business, Capital City Doula Services. Melissa began her journey to helping families during the pregnancy and birth of her own two children: Clayton, born in ‘99 and Alyssa, born in ‘01. She has since helped over 45 women give birth and has taught many childbirth education classes in the past few years. Her passion for helping provide a positive birth experience for moms and dads has grown over the years as she continues to learn from each mother and family! Melissa has recently been invited to review pregnancy materials for Lamaze International to be published in the Journal for Perinatal Education (JPE). She also enjoys her role as Coordinator for a local MOPS(Mothers of Preschoolers) group that had enrollment of over 50 mothers all with children under the age of 5!
